Digital Playbill
A Welcome from the Director
“You. Are all. Such…theatre people!” - Turg
Why do I love theatre people? Because they run toward the fire.
When the world feels unstable, when the lights go out—metaphorically or literally—it’s theatre people who find the flashlight and patch up the holes with gaff tape because they know that the world needs this story
They’re the first to hug a stranger, the first to share their snacks and the last to leave the space, still sweeping the stage after the curtain call.
This play is a love letter to the kind of people who say “yes” instinctively. Yes to the late nights and the last minute line changes. Yes to doubling as the understudy, the choreographer, and the prop master. Yes to building a world from nothing. Yes to the vulnerable act of standing in the light and saying, “This is my truth.”
Theatre people are the best people in the world not because we’re perfect but because we choose community—over and over again. We choose to gather, to build something ephemeral and meaningful with our hands, our breath, our hearts.
In a culture that often rewards speed, scale, and spectacle, theatre insists on presence. On people. And the people who show up again and again to make that happen? They are my heroes.
I want to take a moment to thank all of the theatre people who have supported this script on its journey to tonight. Those who attended staged readings or took the time to offer feedback on a draft. And an even bigger thank you to the theatre people that helped make this script into the version that you see today: Sarah Chong Harmer, Dane Parker, Iza Garza, Daniel Kublick, Taylor Flanagan, Sharron Bower Anderson, Michael Galvan, Daniela Recabarren Mendoza, Kareem Badr, Eliza Renner, Bernadette Nason, and Malena Pennycook.
And thank you, theatre person, for joining us tonight and sharing your laughter and time with us.
Enjoy the show,
Liz Fisher
